  56.     The VOCABUCOMP program is intended to be used for vocabulary review.
  57.    Vocabulary is an essential part of many areas of study.  Words are the
  58.    basis of understanding.  In many areas, learning the vocabulary is almost 
  59.     like learning a foreign language.  Once you know the language, you 
  60.                can use it to think about the particular area.
  61.  
  62.  The more you review vocabulary, the better you get at it, and the better you 
  63.     will be able to use the words and recognize the words in reading or a 
  64.                                in a test.
  65.  
  66.     YOU NEED TO USE THIS PROGRAM OVER AND OVER TO LEARN THE WORDS WELL!
  67.  
  68.    Many tests rely on your use of vocabulary terms.  The more you review
  69.     vocabulary terms, the more likely you are to do well on such tests.
  70.  
  71.  In most areas of study, the vocabulary is used only as a way to understand
  72.       something.  That means that the vocabulary is just a stepping stone
  73.   to understanding.  In other words, don't study vocabulary only.  You need
  74.    to spend an equal amount of time in thinking about processes, about how
  75.           things work or why they happen the way that they do.

  77.                 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: DOS 2.1 or higher, 256 K.
  78.            A hard drive, color monitor, and a printer are optional.

  81.                             II.  INSTALLATION/STARTUP

  83.           FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS TO RUN THE PROGRAM FROM THE DISK

  85.   1.  Type in the letter drive letter ---  example:   A: <enter>

  87.   2.  To run the program (COLOR MONITOR):  voc <enter>
  88.       To run the program (MONOCHROME MONITOR):  voc m <enter>

  92.                              HARD DRIVE INSTALLATION

  94.                              A hard drive is optional 
  95.                   and provides quicker functioning of this program.

  97.      To install the program on the hard drive, insert the program disk
  98.                     in drive A and type INSTALL <return>
  99.                  Follow the instructions that you will see.

  102.                                     STARTUP

  104.  1.  To learn to use the VOCABUCOMP program, install to the hard drive
  105.                       using the command  INSTALL <enter>
  106.  
  107.  2.    The program will start automatically once installation is complete.

  109.                         To run at other times,  type

  114.             You may type VOC M to run the program in monochrome.

  116.  3.       From the menu, you should pick HELP. You will see this manual.

  122.              You may type READNOW M to run the manual in monochrome.

  124.             4.  You may also choose to print this manual once you

  129.                          III.    FILES ON THE DISK
  130.  
  131.        A complete list of all files on the disk is contained in the
  132.       file named FILES found on the program disk.  You can look at it
  133.               with a word processor or the DOS TYPE command.
  134.

  137.                      IV.   INSTALLATION TO WINDOWS 3.1
  138.  
  139.                   NOTE: How to print this file is found above.
  140.  
  141.      Follow these steps to install VOCABUCOMP to WINDOWS 3.1. This
  142.        procedure will enable you to run VOCABUACOMP from WINDOWS.
  143.  
  144.     1.  First get to DOS.  Place program disk in drive A and type INSTALL 
  145.     <enter> to install the program to your hard drive FIRST.
  146.     2.  Start WINDOWS and click once on the APPLICATIONS title line or on
  147.     the window of your choice.
  148.     3.  Click once on the word FILE in the top left of the screen.
  149.     4.  Click once on the word NEW.
  150.     5.  Click once on the bullet to the left of "PROGRAM ITEM" and then
  151.     click on OK.
  152.     6.  In the DESCRIPTION LINE, type  VOCABULARY
  153.     7.  Tab to the next line and type  VOC.EXE      To use a monochrom
  154.     monitor, type instead   VOC.EXE M
  155.     8.  Tab to the next line and type  C:\VOC
  156.     9.  Click on  CHANGE ICON and then click on OK on the reminder that
  157.     there is no icon.
  158.     10. If the filename is not c:\windows\progman.exe then type
  159.     c:\windows\progman.exe
  160.     11. Then click on the right hand arrow below the icon pictures.
  161.     Use the arrows to pick an icon that you like for this purpose. Then
  162.     click on OK.
  163.     12. When returned to the properties list, click OK.
  164.     13. You are all set and ready to go.  VOCABUCOMP is Windows
  165.     compatible, but does not use the Windows interface internally.

  169.                              V.  USE OF PROGRAM

  171.                                 MENU COMMANDS
  172.  
  173.   To choose a particular menu command, you may use the mouse or you may use
  174.   the ALT key together with the letter that becomes highlighted when you
  175.   press the ALT key.  You may also use the arrow keys to move through the
  176.   menu lines, up/down/left/right keys all work once you are in the menu line
  177.   (with the ALT key).

  179.   To leave the review areas, use the ESC key.
